Learn About Generative AI

As a kickoff for the AI in the Classroom Series, ITS EdTech with the library and Faculty Development presented the “LEARN” session. The presentation was led by Dr. Eric Hagedorn, professor of Philosophy and Computer Science.

Session Overview:

AI (or more specifically, Generative AI) is all the rage right now. Programs like ChatGPT, Gemini, Apple Intelligence, Dall-E, and more are producing essays, images, videos, and other content with a degree of speed and creativity we’ve never witnessed before. It’s easy to both underestimate and overestimate what this technology is capable of, and both errors can lead to some quite dire consequences. Come to learn a bit about what generative AI is and how it works — and even more on what it isn’t and how it doesn’t work. Stay to hear a litany of (sometimes comic, often tragic) stories of how people have gotten themselves into quite hot water due to misunderstandings of this rapidly evolving technology.
